I think I'm going to buy a type 2 gold eagle soon. I don't care for the liberty on the obverse, but the close up of the eagle on the revearse looks cool. I wish the US Mint gave us a new liberty design for the type 2s. Type 3 when?

It depends on your intentions and your budget. Personally, I use PMs as a physical long-term savings account and I also collect things I just think are neat. Gold tends to perform better than silver and comes with a lower premium and takes up less space, all of which make it appealing. Meanwhile, people tend to lean more into silver if they think it'll take off enough to outweigh its premium (or they're SHTF retards lol).

If I were making a first purchase today, I'd buy a 1 oz gold coin and a tube of 1 oz silver coins from my country's mint, the US Mint. Your native coins will be the most liquid, should you decide to sell. After having dabbled in a little bimetal fun and lurking here a bit, reassess your plan and budget some sort of regularly-occurring purchase. Ofc, if you stick around long enough, the 'tism might kick in and you'll start buying 1 of everything in every weight from every corner of the world and every time period (at least that's what happened to me).
