the opposite. People need a place to live so if they corner a large portion of the market they will extract as much as possible, which turns out is a lot, since people have no real choice. If wagies get uppity and try to live in their cars or starve them of rent the banks will just use the police to crack down on homelessness and your tax money to bail them out if it causes any cash flow issues

How do wagies do it? Waking up to an alarm, washing themselves, dressing up, sitting in traffic, dancing like circus monkeys so that their boss will give them just enough money to not starve to death or die from exposure to the elements. Wagies might have 4 hours of their own agency per day after all of this is accounted for. That's roughly 1.5 days a week of your own waking agency if counting weekends. Thats like 78 days a year worth of time where you have agency. So a 30 year old wagie basically has less than 10 years of living left if they are lucky. They are essentially walking dead.

Do wagies just agree to this because they can't come up with anything better? Or are they masochists?
