Can anyone think of novel cross-chain dApps? I'm trying to picture what comes next after DEXs, synthetic assets, borrowing/lending and perps? Some sort of alt-coin index fund perhaps? Maybe just optimizing current smart contracts to settle on ETH for legitimacy while doing all the heavy lifting on extremely cheap L2s? That idea has been beaten to death here already but it seems the most promising current usecase.

I think we all know that one of the first big breakthroughs with CCIP will be to simply pool all available liquidity in DeFi under one umbrella, funneling it all into a leading dApp in each field (Uniswap for DEXs, Synth for synthetic assets, AAVE for lending, GMX for perps) and that alone should provide a huge amount of transaction volume flowing through CCIP without any real world adoption or real world assets.
