OP isn't accounting for the fact that anyone who can effortlessly excel in a pure mathematics field is probably of higher than average intelligence and therefore more prone to mental illness and social isolation, which will handicap their efforts without the constant use of potent psychotropic drugs whose long term side effects are an inability to feel or do anything while off of the drug.

I know of at least a couple math geniuses who have killed themselves or been committed to psych wards because their minds are oriented towards something that 90% of the world doesn't just not understand, but actively mocks and derides the people who study it as fucking quant nerd autist sperglords.

That said, being a quant at a top tier hedge fund or investment firm can be comfy af, like I'm talking 300k base salary and your job is secure since none of the other chad bro IBankers could ever understand anything that you do. Combine that with Python automation and machine learning and you'll be super rich and also probably super lonely, but normal people aren't interesting to you anyway, so whatever right?
