In the UK there's VAT and CGT. A gold coin with the monarch's face on there's none. Silver coins with the monarch's face on has VAT, not CGT. As for gold without the monarch's face there's no VAT but there is CGT. As for silver without the monarch's face on there's VAT and CGT.

Oh I know what you're on about now. You can do, but I image you will be paying hefty premiums to get them. I personally wouldn't because in a theoretical collapse, people will be using weight scales and XRF thermo machines. Another factor is that people will trust coins more than random pieces of coins, plus the 22k versions are designed for circulation. It's because of these points that the full sovereign is so popular. At 22mm and a quarter ounce of gold, it's simply one of the best to use in fiat fucked world. For your smaller denominations, that's what silver is used for (then copper and nickel if things get really desperate).

I'd love to own a whole ounce worth, very small but still heavy for its size.
