Fuck guys, my relative won't make her will.

She has decompensated cirrhosis and is still drinking and probably she could die any day. She has at least a few million in assets and she's said that she wants to give me and my sister something, but she won't simply go to a lawyer and make up the paperwork.

I'm going there next month to hopefully help her hash things out, but I'm worried that even with me physically there bugging her to get stuff done it won't get done.

Have any of you dealt with a relative who wouldn't get their affairs in order? How did you get them to do it? If they never got it done what happened?

This is business and finance related because it involves finances. If I end up getting any money out of this I will use it for a down payment on a house.

Me personally, I have a PhD in a subject I like and a government job and a little family who loves me. I don't own a home though which nags at my soul and makes me uncomfortable and I don't think I will feel better until I own one.
