Yes, aliens are just our current understanding of gods however, as our knowledge of the universe grows so does our knowledge of intelligence greater then ours. Just as tribal society had visions of animalistic nature gods we have visions of universal techno gods. Christians often conflate aliens to demons which is not entirely untrue, a predator species that tricks you into becoming a failing species is certainly something we could call an evil species, however a species that brings understanding and the greater good would be percived as angles in comparison. I do not know what our understanding will be in the future of these gods, but i have no doubt our understanding will continue to evolve, I'm sure breakthroughs in understanding what exactly quantum mechanics are sometime this century will evolve another piece of our understanding.
