It's an understandable fallacy to assume the West will "progress" on this trendline forever. Financial systems are failing, family dynamics are broken and we're more divided than ever regardless of our exposure to violence declining over the past century. The truth is, nobody knows how the future will pan out but investing in XMR is hedging your bets against a more dystopian one. It's the ultimate win/lose scenario. Even then, in the case that our systems do improve for the better, government and big tech surveillance will improve simultaneously. Governments also determine what is and what is not illegal. It's not hard to look at most of human history or current third world conditions to see how that can unfold.
