...while I got this ranch home. Never have to go up the steps (as I age), never hear or really even see neighbors, have a huge outdoor space for myself, pets or kids if I manage to find a good woman and don't have to pay HOA fees, mostly do my own maintenence

This is in the Raleigh/Durham area and I am in a good location and minutes walking distance to parks, groceries, gym and downtown. Why do people prefer and pay $150-200K more for these huge townhouses squashed in with neighbors? I felt like I was stealing when I got my house.

I have a 1960s, 1,600 sqft ranch house with a 2 car garage and 1/2 acre in Raleigh NC area and it's $550K which I bought for $400K in 2021. It's not going down over time. Lots of new McMansion developments with 3,500 sqft but no outdoor space and shitty locations. Apple, Google, tech companies, financial services and banks and Biotech in the area.

Raleigh area. I quit this year after stock and crypto gains and bought a ranch like pictured last year for $400K and similar houses in neighborhood now sell for $580K. This area is going to keep growing and appreciating with the 3 universities, RTP, Apple and Google building campuses and a lot of financial services/banks building additional campuses branching out from the Charlotte banking area. Also close to the beach, mountains, not too conservative and not too liberal.
