As a toddler, I was driven to know *how* something worked. I wasn't satisfied with just knowing something worked when a button was pressed. I had to know the Rube Goldberg Machine-like connections from input[s] to output[s]. The first things which fascinated me were locks. The whole concept of a device holding a mechanical secret which only a specific-shaped piece of metal could activate was astounding. I had even went so far as to disassemble the front door's doorknob at age 2.

I had to take everything apart to at least *see* the guts. Though, my re-assembly skills never kicked in until I was 12, but yea.

There are so many layers of abstraction in modern computers, it can be stupifying.
