IoT is the backbone of the fourth industrial revolution. literally everything will be online someday. theoretically the paint on your wall will be connected to the internet someday. it's going to be complete insanity. bringing everything online will probably give everyone brain tumors so we better cure cancer at the same rate that we're bringing on this technological revolution but if you're laughing at IoT devices triggering insurance payouts then you're not researching the future enough. that's totally reasonable tech that more than likely will happen at this rate.
