Part of me believes its the lifestyle of being a brand-loyal consumer. Its the only thing that gets them out of bed to go to work and spend their dollars on useless wigdets, eating out, clothes and experiences. Material goods made people feel wealthy and rich when they really weren't. Whether it was driving nice cars, jewellery, big houses, fancy eating, or vacations. People wanted it so much that they would be willing to spend all their time working for it. It feels like a real trap. Lets not forget how much debt many of these people carry because of this lavish spending too. Thats what I think most normies would do even today.
