Land along the Mississippi, Missouri, and Arkansas rivers have the best fertile land in the world. But food isn't even 10% of the nation's GDP. I think as the world population grows, it will be worth a lot more, and I think that's why B. Gates is buying so much farm land.

Peter Zion blames the Jones act for fucking up industrial expansion along the rivers. I disagree with most of what he says, but he's right about this.
