For example it was assumed in 1940 that all Korean people were dullards who were destined to be poor farmers forever. North Korea is still like this today.
But with the correct governance structure, and with the spread of education, and health knowledge, South Korea became a paradise very rapidly, the fastest development in recorded history. And benefits flowed to us in the 'old west' in the form of Samsung smartphones and K-pop entertainment.
