Sergey's "failures" were actually a strength, it showed experience in the space and resilience. It's rare for someone to have a success immediately. You should have done your research: it's a fast moving space, NXT was outflanked and Sergey shifted to the most importance problem in the space.
Really for us early on LINK it was an "intellectual" realisation of the problem along with the breadcrumbs ("family table") that got us in early. I spent weeks and weeks in the whitepaper and reading everything I could.

Those talking about how people went all in REQ, JNT etc are right, many did. But those on biz who were thinking and discussing all had a big bag of LINK by mid-2018.

Chainlink was always different.. Sergey's background, SIBOS two years running, links with Gonser, the radio silence during the bullrun and general professionalism. For those who took their time and researched and savagely discussed (INTPs etc) then it was always clear.
