In "the good old days" those women would be helping their daughters raise their children and be soaking in baby care hormones. This would keep them occupied all day and drastically improve their moods. Unfortunately, Wall Street determined that juicing your daughter with birth control and kicking her out of the house at 18 so she can earn a degree she won't use and get run through by guys who won't marry her will result in a +5% increase to GDP when she joins the work force. This literally drives women insane, so the guys who eventually do marry them are stuck with a woman who has brain damage and an itch she can't scratch. If they somehow manage to have a kid, this will be alleviated somewhat but it will come back tenfold when they kick their child out at 18 and the wife no longer has anything to scratch that growing itch.
