Anon, I think the engineer = high salary became a meme for two reasons.

1.) The market got super over saturated in just one decade to the point that
dumb basic bitch girls are becoming engineers and coomer-boomer managers are hiring/promoting them like crazy

2.) Engineers salaries start high, and then they just plateau because human brains are really only advanced at problem solving in their youth
These 35+yo engineers are washed up and basically deadweight on payroll.

You were supposed to start with that (relatively) high salary. Invest your money and fight to move to an even high salary in only a few years.
Then you were supposed to take out your investment and move on from engineering.
