I can't understand how people live like this. Even when I was just starting out, when I was $10ks in student debt, had to take public transit, couldn't afford a car... I never let it get that bad... The goal was always to end the month with a higher net worth than the one before it... even if it's only by a little bit. In the time since, I only missed that goal a few times: once when buying a car (paid mostly cash, but financed some), and the other times when the markets dropped (inevitable now that most of my NW is in equities).
