He's a moron but while the virus isn't fake in the sense of not existing, it's fake in the sense of the response being way too overblown for the actual impact of the virus itself. More people are going to die from suicide, poverty, and pent up aggression from others than what the memeflu could have done. There's no coincidence that before it spread to other countries the internet was being flooded by Chinese glowwies with videos of random chinks falling dead in the street, bleeding spontaneously from all orifices, having seizures, etc. All used as fear tactics to prep the west for their overblown response.

The real reason China created the great firewall wasn't because they feared their people getting information from the outside world. As someone who's personally been to China and knows many Chinese who have previously lived there, I can tell you that literally everyone bypasses the firewall and nobody is living in some bubble where only chinese propaganda is allowed. The firewalls were set up because China planned in advance to use digital media as a psychological weapon and didn't want their own people to fall prey to it. They saw the evils of what social media and advertising algorithms would become. They knew that it would be painfully easy to manipulate an entire nation of people by feeding algorithms the right fuel. So they did it, and the world fell for it hook line and sinker. Now China "miraculously" beat the flu and is one of the few modernized countries to actually report 2% GROWTH this year while the rest of the world falls into depression. The fact of the matter is, they knew beforehand that this was just a fuckin harmless flu virus. But they knew that western media has a propensity to fearmonger out of greed for extra clicks and engagement. It becomes a self-propetuating monster that grows exponentially on its own. They won. We lost. They play the long game while we look only towards short term profits.
