There's different ways to get different effects. Sometimes just time and touching it with fingers can give some nice rainbow looks, sometimes people give it a chemical treatment. The ones you buy "antiqued" (and pay extra for) use chemicals. Pic related. I'm not sure what was used on that particular ASE though. Here's where I found the pic--
