ALSO you're neglecting the ammo costs. 7.62x39 is ~45cpr. 5.56 is like 85cpr. check this math

2500 rounds of 5.56 brass = 2125$
2500 rounds of 7.62 steel = 1125$ + new AK for 1000$ = 2125$

the AK ammo savings literally pay for the cost of 2500 rounds + a new AK47 versus if you went with AR/5.56

For the record I have both, but I've only shot my AK over the past year because the AR ammo is so expensive. so if money is a factor, then the AK definitely is still relevant and there are plenty of options for accessories / parts / mags. you can swag out an AK just as much as you can as an AR.
