not really, you're just paying taxes on it later, and that's only if it's a traditional 401k.
i get a 6% match at my company (and a 4% total salary contribution EOY) and do that in a roth 401k, because i know taxes are 100% going higher by the time i retire vs now.
there's really no point to contributing to a 401k if there's no employer match.
