No. The DJI is near an all time high now because everyone is euphoric again. The market believes that a soft landing is guaranteed, the Fed will 180 pivot back to QE and ZIRP, and inflation will stay low. Right now we're in the "denial" phase of recovery from QE + ZIRP withdrawal.

Right now the market has priced in a soft landing with an ultra dovish Fed that will 180 pivot back to QE and ZIRP at the first signs of economic distress. That's not going to happen. The Fed won't pivot until the economy cracks and the markets crash. The Fed has already committed to that when they said they will overtighten and then use their tools to stimulate the economy.

Powell was "dovish" before the July rally too and then came back with Jackson Hole after the market rallied. He's not a good speaker but the theme is the same:

The market cannot accept that the Fed will hold rates higher for longer because that means the free money game will end. With no free money the stock market has to be radically repriced. These are pumps fueled by disbelief.

The market is just in full on denial mode right now. Anger comes next when the Fed keeps hiking even with doomsday data starting to roll in each week.

The market believes this only because of the rapid pace of the rate hikes and the lack of historical reference for the effects of high rates in a ZIRP QE addicted economy. The consequences of a 5%+ FFR have barely begun to affect the economy. The market is in the denial phase of recovery and still believes that the Fed will pivot at the first sign of a real downturn.

Yes it is. Since 2008 the Fed has always been there to support the markets. This time is different. The Fed wants the stock market to go down and they want pain. Just last week Bullard came out with his ridiculous fear porn about a possible 7% terminal rate to try and push the market down. Powell's Jackson Hole speech was a direct response to financial loosening in the markets. Everyone is still in denial that the real pivot has already occurred: the Fed is now actively trying to break the economy instead of supporting it.
