Well i have a fixed amount that I want to invest. Can i look at index funds as a kind of long term CD with a better rates (assuming the index has steady yearly growth)?

Considering I dont have the time or knowledge to get deep into investing, I was hoping that I could find something that would give a good return in a long term frame.

If i got all into it, i could try to buy & sell and gamble for that golden %12 annual. But im realistic, and not expecting huge gains with little work. Pretty much substituting length of time for amount of work.
