If you believe in democracy, then you believe that people as a whole are smart enough to separate fact from fiction. The only reason that you'd ban speech that you don't agree with is if you don't believe people are smart enough to think for themselves and need to be led like sheep. Democracy doesn't work if people aren't allowed to think certain thoughts or see certain ideas.
