Shop around for low premium gold LMU 20 francs (5.8 g)
Also british sovs and south african 2 rands (7.32 g)

I don't think fractionals are necessarily bad. It depends on which ones you buy. 1 gram is not good, and probably not 1/10 oz either. But you can find sovs (7.32 g) and 20F (5.8 g) for decent premiums. He should compare prices. Here's a simple shell script for calculating.

#!/bin/sh
c() { echo "scale=5; $*" | bc ; }
echo "sov : " `c 31.1/7.32*$1`
echo "20F : " `c 31.1/5.8*$1`

Maybe, if you can get them at a decent price. Compare premiums to 1 oz coins, sovs, 20F, etc.
Someone posted a pelican case full of these bars earlier this year. Or maybe it was last winter, I don't remember.

You might be able to get sovs for less premiums than those other fractionals. Check the prices and do the math. Compare the prices in grams for each coin.

It's not too bad in France or Belgium. You can see for example the wiener prices in euros on goldsilver.be (25.90) and Acheter-Or-Argent.fr (25.60)
But I don't think silver is very interesting to buy right now, since gold is dropping.

>the inability that spend bigly probably also is why this general likes silver so much, compared to gold
I gather most people here order silver by the tube (or some equivalent size bars), so they could just as well buy sovs or 20 francs gold coins, with much smaller premiums. However, silver has more long-term potential, if the price suppression ever ends.

Old coins aren't necessarily bad. Austrian 100 coronas are a pretty good value, but they're almost 1 ozt, so not really fractional. And the south african 2 rand coins are fractional, but they have low premiums. But the LMU and british sovereigns are more expensive (bigger premium), and unless you're forced to buy them for tax reasons, it doesn't really make sense. The 1/2 oz and lower modern bullion coins are also more expensive.
So far, I've only ever bought 1 oz gold kruggerands. I don't plan to change that, unless I just can't easily save up for a 1 oz coin, and then I'll start buying 2 rand coins.

US gold eagle is expensive. Just buy krugerrands instead, they're also 22 karat.
There's also this 2 rand coin that often has low premiums.

I guess if you want sovereigns or 20 francs LMU coins, then you're buying grams, because that's what their gold content is measured in.

Most likely they'll charge you the premiums because that's how they make money. You might look into these south african 2 rand coins, they tend to have low premiums despite being fractional.

>>55101991
53 ozt of gold, plus some copper. I got a few more but they're newer (2022) and sealed separately, so I didn't open them. Anyway those tubes are full.

If you don't have any PMs at all yet, then silver is the way to go, assuming you have some other savings in cash (otherwise you better just buy some gold 20F or better yet the 2 rand coins that have less premiums).

For those kind of fractionals, yeah. But I can get 2 rand coins for basically the same premium as 1 oz krugs.

The premiums on fractional 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, and 1/20, and especially 1 gram coins are not really worth it. Get the sov instead, or get one of these (it comes out to the same cost as a 1 oz krugerrand).

Those fractional golds are a ripoff. Here's what you want to buy instead. It's got 7.32 grams gold, and the price works out the same as buying a 1 oz krugerrand. Even the 20F coins with 5.8 grams gold are more expensive per oz. Do the math on all these coins and you'll see. A lot of dealers don't give you the full info on coins, but you can go to www.acheter-or-argent.fr and see them.
