Prior to Jacques Cartier's expedition in 1534, this place was inhabited by various stone age (literally) paleo-chink tribes who regularly waged war against each other, and were responsible for a super extinction event of the local fauna as they migrated southwards after crossing the Bering land bridge.

Over the course of several centuries, as civilized and industrious Europeans colonized the Americas, what became known as the Dominion of Canada was, demographically, roughly 98% European at the time of Confederation in 1867 accordingly to the official government census records of that decade.

As recently as 1971, Canada was still 96% European. But, as seen in many other western countries, something began to change in the mid-sixties. For example, in 1965 lawmakers in Sweden legislated multiculturalism as national policy. That same year, the US passed the Hart-Celler act, which eliminated the United States' immigration policies' near-exclusive prioritization of white immigrants from western Europe. As a result of similar changes to Canada's immigration policy, which began in the mid-sixties and culminated in the 1980's, today, as per the 2021 census, Canada's demographics have fallen to less than 70% white/European, and the rate of ethnic change is accelerating.

Do most Canadian citizens 401k plans hold American stocks, or Canadian stocks?

As a Canadian is it easy to invest in the US companies? As an American would it be easy for me to buy Canadian companies on the Toronto stock exchange?
