How much money should I have saved up before I move out and get my own place?

I'm still living at home at the age of 24 and I feel like a loser for it. I plan on moving a few hours away, getting my own place, and looking for work immediately once I get there. I've heard that saving up 6 months worth of living expenses is a good rule of thumb. Would you agree?
