The idea is to buy above the 200 MA, and sell when it drops below. In pic related the 2x SP500 averages around 14%, while the 2x (with 200 MA strategy) did 19%. So I'd assume the strategy would work similarly with QLD as well. That being said, if you can time market bottoms (like you're attempting with TQQQ) then you're going to outperform everyone.

The 200 MA is used for long term trends. The algorithms like to use it for buy/sell points sometimes. It's a decent entry and exit point for 3x ETFs. There's a paper call "leverage for the long run" which shows the back testing of the strategy (pic related) among other things. SPY and QQQ are already above their 200 EMA. I'll be buying UPRO and TQQQ when they cross the SMA as well.

You could just use the 200 moving average strategy that gets shilled here. At the very least you'll have a decent entry and exit point.
