Don't go to school for stats at your age. Seriously, do not.

If you are capable of the kind of reasoning that stats requires, you are capable of programming, and programming is both more lucrative and more likely to land you a job.

Stats work is now Machine Learning, AI and or data science. Here's how you break in. You find a discord, no I am not fucking kidding, you find a bunch of topical discords. You find people in study groups and working on projects. Be very careful that you do not perpetually study and do not have projects to show for it. Anyway, you find people working on projects, and you help them. This is both how you skill up, and how you network.

After cutting your teeth on a few open source projects, you can start asking around through your network how to get a position. It will be hard, but way easier than you might think. And it will cost you only your time, instead of your time and money.

t. Got employed as a data engineer following this advice, no degree.
