My Roth is only about a year old, so also just starting off, and I've actually added SPHD as one of the heavier weights. My goal is to hold a yield over 5%. In 5-10 years these sorts of ETFs will make you glad you have them. My 401K is about 7 years old and the dividends are much much bigger than I would have thought at this point, which gives me hope that a self-directed account could do even better with some creativity.
