With ETH’s fork and its imminent damage I wanted to share a story about my journey with ETH. I might be a bit emotional at the moment over imaginary online funny money.

The year was 2015 and I was happily married. We both held menial office jobs under the same company. We were not poor but we were definitely struggling to save up for the future. Now to give you a little bit of context, I was raised on this website. I found out about ETH and knowing a bit about BTC I was intrigued. In a happy marriage of course you have to discuss all financial stragedies with your partner. She saw it as nothing but gambling but I did manage to let her put up my portion of savings towards ETH.

Later that year my wife told me that she was pregnant. I knew it was time to change my ways so I stopped browsing 4chan except for /biz/. Hey, it’s money related so relevant and potentially a positive in my life right? I started reading about all the big things about ETH and how it’s going to compete with BTC in due time. We were expecting a baby and it was time to really think about the future of my family. I know I know I shouldn’t make such important financial decisions based on 4chan posts but my own thoughts and opinions also happened to aligned with what you people were saying back then.

My wife was not happy about me spending our money our ETH. She wanted to invest with a bank where our money will be accounted for. I thought differently and I wanted to play the high risk high reward game with the potential for us to never worry about our finances.

We fought, a lot. But I insisted that we were making the right decision. As my wife took maternity leave from work, my income was our sole income. This was a problem as she was pregnant with our child and grew angry every time she found out I was dropping money on ETH.
