you're right that China had a long history of civilization that Africa cannot match, but saying that they were never as poor as Africa is not true. they were even below Africa's level at some points under Mao. China is the only country to have ever had a smaller per capita GDP after the industrial revolution than they did 500 years earlier. imagine people with electricity and factories producing less than medieval peasants; that's how industrious chinese were historically, and it's also how badly Mao fucked up. That prosperous history, really the character of chinese civilization, is part of the reason that all China had to do was stop having Mao as a leader to rapidly advance beyond sub-Africa-tier poverty.
