I was doing one of those internships where supposedly if you perform well you get hired. This was one for one of the world's biggest engineering consultancy firms so I didn't think it was a scam. I'd been a fresh grad who was jobless for a year so obviously I took it out of desperation.

The internship period was for 6 months. I worked hard and was lauded and praised almost every other day by my manager and teammates with really nice compliments. Eventually, my manager quit after telling me that the associate director was a prick but that she recommended me for getting hired before leaving. Well, time passes and I get let go by email 2 days before I was supposedly set to get hired without an opportunity to talk to anyone about it and had to come in to the office in the weekend to turn in my shit. My new line manager was nice enough to give me a call and try to console me but she didn't dare mention how badly the situation was handled, why I wasn't given notice, or why my hopes were raised so high which pissed me off.

The whole thing really pissed me off, left me very bitter and shattered my confidence, and I can't help feeling that I was abandoned by the people on the team that I thought I befriended. I found out recently that the associate director was getting fired so I may try to reapply since everyone there likes me except for him but I'm not sure how good my prospects are anymore. I've been in a jobless slump ever since this happened.
