So far we've only gotten the Saint Gaudens design back and the liberty head eagle reverse on a $5 commemorative for 2007 I believe. Unless they've brought more back that I'm unaware of.
To be honest, I'm not sure why in 86, they just didn't restrike the pre 33 coins again (similar to other countries restriking classic coins) instead of making every denomination have the gaudens design. Uniformity I suppose. No disrespect to the gaudens design either.

Mainly the closest things to a gotcha is that
A) the older coins are faked more and are easier to fake
B) they don't have precise weight and purity info on them (with the exception of a lot of old Latin American circulation coinage, which usually does)
C) they're never 999 fine gold
D) more people care about AGEs, Buffalos. But those boomers usually care a lot about pre 33 too so there's not much of a catch with pre 33 other than risk of fakes.
I do agree that they have more history and usually the designs have more sovl as well. Most of my stack, even though it is small, is older gold. I just like it way more than bullion.
Although I would like to get some more bullion so I won't be as attached to it of I have to sell. I could never part with my injun here but a regular old quarter ounce piece would be easier to sell if need be. Not that I plan on selling but you never know. Shit happens.

If you put it in a capsule it seems a bit bigger but is still smol. If you want small gold with a decent size then get a gold 1 ducat piece. They're almost pure gold, have a longer diameter, and have a bit more than 1/10 oz.
Not sure if they're as liquid though because they don't display the gold weight on them and the average boomer probably doesn't even know what it is.
I still like them though as the portrait of that Austrian dude looks cooler than other monarchs and the back has an even nicer design. The fact that it's an older design, and thus has more sovl than new ones, also plays a big part in its attractiveness to me. Other than my first gold, the 1/10 oz age, all my gold has the older designs. Because older shit is just better.
