Of course not, but my boss thinks it does. If he knew I could get my Excel shit done in 1 hour or less 90% of the time he'd give me a lot more work but it wouldn't come with more money so fuck that. This is basic office wagie knowledge. Never let anyone know how fast you can really work because then they expect that all the time. Next thing you know you have a constant backlog of shit that needs to get done and you can't be promoted because you're too valuable to the company in your current role while the guy who slacks off but buddies up with the boss is getting promoted.

Advanced office wagie knowledge is waiting until 4:45 to turn in something that is due by end of day. That way if they want you to change something it has to wait until tomorrow and would you look at that, it's going to take me all day again to do this so I'll get back to you at 4:45 with the spreadsheet updates.

Something similar happened to me at my last job. I was specifically hired for a certain project. But the manager who hired me and said we'd work closely together on it never once made time to meet with me about getting started and he never provided resources for it either. It was a very small company that grew from 20 employees to over 75 by the time they fired me after 6 months.

My manager was always busy interviewing and onboarding. Every time I asked if we could get the ball rolling on our project he blew me off, saying his calendar was full and telling me to just find something to do to keep busy. This happened a couple times a week. I tried but they never met me halfway. I even asked other people if I could help them out with whatever and nobody ever wanted help. End of year they terminated me for "under-performance." I told my manager and the HR roastie the landscaping company I worked at in college was a better managed workplace and that company was full of illegals who couldn't speak English.

The way you get around this is working at home. I can spend my time on the clock either brainlessly shitposting or playing vidya or watching shows, then I can do productive stuff once work is done and I got all the laziness out of my system.
