Consider that all the people in your life with shitty/failed marriages are likely not very smart, not conscientious, and not able to think ahead. The Bell Curve noted that the '50% of marriages end in divorce' figure overlooks that the majority of those failed marriages belonged to people of below average intelligence. If you can't be adults and actually discuss the big 5 (religion, kids, money, in-laws, and personality differences) with each other than you aren't ready to be married.
