I'm familiar with the reasons for bigger blocks and I'm not against them at all.
Bitcoin core dev's are (reasonably so) that increasing the costs to run full nodes (when there isn't any financial incentive to run one) will hurt the system.
My point wasn't that raising the block size is bad, but rather that if fees were the only reason people were mad they could just use segwit or push their exchanges to integrate it.
