>Ok, I have a really stupid question about Uber. Why the hell are they still not profitable? (Excluding their ridiculous metric for profitability which practically says they're profitable if they exclude all expenses)

Openstreetmap is a community map and better than Uber map. A lot of Uber drivers already use Google maps instead of Uber's routing algorithm so there's no pressure on that side either.
