You'd think so, but for the past 10 years the Fed has been screeching about how inflation has been below targets and how it's problematic. If anything, they'd have wanted to rig the inflation higher to make it seem like conditions are healthier.

Social Security is a massive part of the budget and the government is very incentivized to minimize it however possible.
