>how often do you think about the roman empire when making financial decisions?

Very rarely because I do not have the authority to debase currency.
However, I do think of the roman empire frequently when it comes to moral and political decisions. As it turns out, when in Rome DO NOT do as the romans do (if you want your nation to survive anyways).

Depends on exactly where it's located but generally
>agriculture and ranching
>tourism/hospitality
>blue collar jobs that are needed anywhere people live (mechanic, plumber, electrician, handyman, landscaping, police, firefighter)
>warehouses, which can also mean truckers live there if they work routes starting from nearby warehouses
>oil/mining
>healthcare
>food service and retail McJobs
>these places always have a few drug dealers and smugglers
If you're living with your parents in a house they own or renting a place with a roommate your bills are pretty fucking low so you can still get by even with shit tier jobs. What really fucks over small town economies is if one greedy, power-hungry family ends up owning all the commercial real estate store fronts. They'll drive up rent to the point it puts companies out of business and they start a death spiral for the town's economy, plus they're usually politically connected enough to cuck any competition. Many such cases.
