Not only is that not in Gamestops interest (the short sellers were butchering the price of GME) but that is effectively putting a bandaid on an axe wound. There is over 25billion dollars of short interest to cover. Good luck issuing shares in an attempt to sweep that under the rug.

Only braindead morons treat this is like a pump and dump. Shorts haven't covered at all yet. There is still billions in buying pressure that must be exerted by the short hedge funds. Calls come due this Friday as well so hedge funds have to cover them. I really like Gamestop's business model too :)
