Open source software would stop existing within 12 months of this happening. It is a miracle it still exists as is. Look at what happened since Microsoft took over github. Lack of profit incentive is a good thing for some use cases. It also helps open source develops skirt IP laws. Patreon has shown that only big companies take risks with new technology and donationware just ends up putting money into the hands of people feeding nostalgianiggers and kooky gadgets that nobody uses for anything except taking pictures of. This is why I support letting people buy equity but giving them as little voting power as possible. You either trust the people running the business to run the business correctly or you don't. In which case why give them money to run their business?
