It's a fine time to average in on a long hold, sure. Two things- no, three things some people are doing I suggest to avoid:
>long hodling 3x leverage etfs.
Stop it.
>buying short term calls
I don't like this because the oil timeline is going to be finicky, could drop in to the teens briefly, involves a few factors that could work to hold it down at current range potentially for a few months. Remember the situation is extraordinarily low demand because of corona chan AND producers pumping the stuff out without the old OPEC agreed production caps. They're stuffing storage capacity to the brim here and some are even trying to use the pipeline system as additional storage capacity (which they are not technically allowed to do).
>going long on companies vulnerable to bankruptcy
Stop this too.

>Most indicators seem basic shit, just elementary school math.
The point of indicators is twofold:
1. They allow you to get a feel for the price action very quickly without needing to analyse the candles for every chart. This allows you to skim through a watchlist real quick to separate the likely bullish in near term from the unlikely bullish or bearish.
2. Indicators can highlight trends about to start or end in ways that aren't immediately obvious at a glance of the candles and volume without looking real closely at them manually.

That's it. They're helpful tools and ways to more tightly define the conditions you want to be present before you buy or sell. They are not magic. Never 100%. And usually not suitable for a one-setup-fits-all approach to everything. My TA is a little different for indexes, different for commodities, and different from both of the former for stocks. Small caps trade differently than large caps, meme hype stuff is its own breed as well.
