I hear her, there are days where I want nothing more but a big plot of land and a big pole barn to be king of /diy/, but then I realize my costs would double and how much that freedom costs.
It's a sticky situation, but I suppose one way to weather a bubble is time. It isn't a great solution and even worse goal ('It's ok if we get ripped off - we can just baghold for 10 years!).
I suspect if you can get her to sit out this Spring's housing season, you'll be in a good place to show her that next years' houses will be even more on sale.
