They are in panic mode. Apu is the meme that everyone relates to and can see themselves in. They don't know how to deal with this problem either. Pepe shills don't want to give up Apu posting because the memetics are too strong, so they pretend to post them as a sarcastic baiting now as a cope. The fact is they're simply afraid to stop posting Apu - they need him.
