an interesting way to interpret the story and message of Jesus is:
Imagine that you share your spirit with all other living people (or all living creatures) throughout time. When you kill, you are both the murderer and the murdered. When you steal, you are stealing from yourself. Your soul is something that makes you the individual, something you craft and cultivate while you live, but it is not the same as the shared spirit. Your body is the vessel of your soul, animated by the spirit. You are god, but with amnesia, bound in the trappings of flesh. 100% divine, 100% mortal, simultaneously. You are both the father, and the son, and the holy spirit.

a slight tweak to that is
>What you do unto others is what you do unto yourself

Reincarnation, but universal and simultaneous in all things. So simply all things are incarnation of God.
The story/symbol of Jesus is someone who was 100% in aware of this spiritual truth.
Since there seems to be some sort of desire of God to cultivate experiences/souls on this physical plane, we live, we die and we take our developed souls back into the spirit of God and "be one with God" and that is how "we'll be one with all our dead relatives/friends". Since nothing imperfect can be with God, all negative aspects of the soul and negative deeds are cast out.
Hell is the collection of all horrors and sins, all negative experiences and deeds. If you accept the grace of God and repent, your soul can merge with God, but you leave your sins behind as you become enlightened and disgusted as your ignorant behavior. If you don't repent your soul will be separate from God and spend eternity dwelling in the mass of all other things that were unfit to be reunited.
