Here's my advice. Liquidity and simplicity is what matters. If you live in North America here's what I'd get:
1. American/Canadian bullion coins
2. junk silver US/Canada dollars
3. (Optional for later) Royal Canadian Mint bullion bars or highly popular private mint bars like Scottsdale or Asahi

That's it. That's the most practical, modest way of stacking imo and you'll obviously deviate here and there as time goes on which of course is fine. Everyone likes ASEs & Maples. Everyone likes Morgan dollars. Private buyers or a LCS will give you spot for RCM bars & near it for Scottsdale/Asahi bars. Why store 500 merc dimes when you can store 50 Morgan or Canada dollars?
