Anyone do contracting here on /biz/? I'm a release engineer and ex-IT guy, getting into network and network security for a new project and figured since I'll have the full scope I'm going to offer my services to small businesses as the "computer guy". Depending on the apparent aptitude of the business owner I'll describe it differently, largely I'll be handling networking, security, software consulting & installation, and then basic bitch work.

This is all on top of my 80k salary so I'll need to eventually hire people if it actually kicks off, but my question to /biz/ is this:

What's the best way to start determining contract fees? Are the typical opening contracts monthly, what set amount of years are the business-norm for new contracts? I'm considering charging a flat fee for service and giving them my availability hours to come perform maintenance.

>1k/month to setup networks and update/maintain them
>500/month to be their security/virus guy
>65/hour +parts for hardware issues

These are all ballpark figures but I want to hear what any /biz/ anons have dealt with and how their pricing schedules and rates worked. My first customers will cost less of course but I don't want to walk into this blind and extremely undercut myself, yet I also want to get some active contracts going.

>middle class Chinese people can straight up buy western houses in cash
Untrue, only the top 5% can do that.

However the top 5% of China is more than 60,000,000 people, and they all fucking love western real estate.

This. I've stuck to a path my whole life, climbed my way out of lower class and landed 80k job, paid off student loans, buying a house this year at 26. Finally getting things right despite a setback from broke family.

Then I went to bars, met the girl of my dreams, and now I'm out five nights a week until 2-4AM for hiking, barhopping, concerts, after parties, comedy shows, symphonies, LAN parties, amateur sports, crafting classes, and wild sex.

These are the best months of my life and I'm so fucking fired once it catches up.

That's $160,000 for the homes in NC, not $16,000. I missed a 0 because, despite my salary, I am in clearly a retard.

>Fucked off until the middle of highschool
>Got into a mediocre college (not community-tier shit)
>Making 80k thanks to decent skillset and years of experience through workstudy/internships, plus networking with people in the field

You can do alright, though the proper circumstances and luck are absolutely a factor. Anyone who says otherwise is a raging homo.

Either you're trolling or disgustingly naive. You'd need to be in the top 10% of the US in order to achieve your goal.

Going back to college won't save me.
