Should I be accumulating now or wait for it to go back down since it more or less doubles its value in a month and seems to be going for a moon close to the ath

I think it's because crypto is easy. You press some buttons, wait for volatility, and maybe make some money. It's fun but ultimately it's a waste of time since you could be building actual skills or a career instead of playing with crypto which requires no intelligence.
